We’ve all had moments, or even days, where we just didn’t know *what to do*. Instead of giving in to doomscrolling through social media, here are 30 things that you can try:

  1. Finish a work in progress (WIP). Anyone else have a nice little pile of projects that are perpetually ‘in progress’?
  2. Organise your supplies. Hands up anyone who has ever had a wee meltdown over spending *too much* time trying to find that one spool of thread.
  3. Sharpen your craft scissors. Blunt scissors are the bane of every crafter’s existance.
  4. Declutter supplies that no longer serve their purpose. Time to let go of that skein of yarn you got just because it was on sale.
  5. Make pompoms or tassels from yarn scraps that are too small for a project.
  6. Make a to-go toolkit for your on the go crafting needs. If you are a knitter, this could include a full set of interchangeable needles, yarn needles for weaving in ends, thread snips and a variety of stitch markers.
  7. Create a wishlist for your next crafting spending spree. Being able to splash out on the craft wishlist that you’ve saved for is *chef’s kiss*.
  8. Update your craft-related Pinterest boards. I treat my Pinterest boards like a virtual commonplace book, so keeping them up-to-date with what’s speaking to me at that point in time is pretty important.
  9. Clean your craft space. If you have a dedicated space for crafting, there’s always time to show it some love.
  10. Reorganise your yarn/thread stash. A well organised stash is going to make the next knitting/crochet session go a lot more smoothly.
  11. Block your finished projects. Knitting projects don’t always fit exactly right immediately after casting off. Blocking your project ensures that the final fit is *just right*.
  12. Make some crochet lace trim.
  13. Knit a pair of socks. Regardless of which stage of your knitting journey you’re at, socks are a good project to turn to when you need to do some ‘mindless knitting’.
  14. Knit or crochet a coffee cup cozy. Goodbye overly-toasty fingers…
  15. Design your perfect project bag.
  16. Make a cross stitch door hanger.
  17. Finish a cross stitch kit.
  18. Write in your journal. Just dumping on your journal/diary is so therapeutic….
  19. Reorganise your travel journaling kit. As a keen journaler, I can safely say that nothing sucks quite as much as not having the supply you need when you need it.
  20. Set up your travel journal for your next trip. The most anxiety-ridden part of keeping a travel journal is dealing with the first blank page or, worse, a blank cover.
  21. Thoroughly clean your fountain pens. If you are a fountain pen user, cleaning out your pens before refilling them, it will make for a smoother writing experience.
  22. Make a cute phone strap or phone charm. Beaded phone accessories are having a moment again.
  23. Make some beaded jewelry.
  24. Make a beaded keychain.
  25. DIY your own candles. Making your own candles is a great way of getting something that’s exactly to your liking.
  26. Recycle old candle containers. That Jo Malone candle’s jar is getting a second life as a brush holder.
  27. Wash your paint brushes.
  28. Try a watercolour tutorial.
  29. Try an art challenge. A popular one is Inktober, where participants are challenged to complete an ink-based drawing every day for the month of October.
  30. Create a swatch card for your watercolour palettes. Not only does this help you see what you currently have, it also helps you to avoid accidentally purchasing duplicates of colours that you already own.
